Apply both front and rear brakes simultaneously while gradually increasing the pressure. The various parts in the engine wear and polish themselves to the correct operating clearances. The intervals given in the periodic maintenance charts should be simply considered as a general guide under normal riding conditions.

The cowlings and panel shown need to be removed to perform some of the maintenance jobs described in this chapter. Refer to this section each time a cowling or panel needs to be removed and installed. Place an oil pan under the final transmission case to collect the used oil.

Remove the final transmission oil drain bolt and its gasket to drain the oil from the final transmission case. Service the air filter elements more frequently if you are riding in unusually wet or dusty areas. The air filter caps and check hose must be frequently checked and cleaned if necessary.
